Brenda Smith, MTS
Assistant Professor of Worship Studies &
Christian Ministries Program Coordinator
Brenda Smith is a new teacher to Booth College. As a pastor for 14 years in church ministry and 6 years in encouraging and coaching youth workers, Brenda has been involved in teaching most of her adult life.
It was her years as a pastor that she became aware of the needs of a congregation for a deeper and more meaningful worship life, both on Sunday morning and, correspondingly, throughout the week. She soon discovered this desire could not be met through the typical venues open to evangelicals, such as newer methods and more modern music. What was needed was a deeper understanding and a greater emphasis on theological reflection of the biblical story in order to worship well and live faithfully.
In order to pursue this understanding, Brenda completed an undergraduate degree in Biblical and Theological studies from Booth College. A few years later, she continued her studies at Tyndale Seminary completing a master of theological studies degree with a major in worship studies. Her studies have taken her from a more sectarian approach to spirituality to the riches of the ecumenical community’s contribution to faith and life.
In her free time, Brenda enjoys playing wild card games with her family, cooking with her husband, and watching the antics of their dog Roody and cat Abbey-Bleu. To relax she enjoys reading poetry and painting – houses and watercolour.
To contact Brenda, you can email her at bsmith@boothcollege.ca or call her at 204.924.4891 or our toll free phone at 877.942.6684 X891.
