Hi, my name is Doug Houlbrook. I graduated from what was then Catherine Booth Bible College in 1995. I graduated with a B.A. with a focus on Old Testament. Professor Dr. Burke had sparked my interest in the Old Testament and was able to make it come alive. For those of you that had him when he taught the prophet seminar will know exactly what I mean.
Following graduation I was planning on taking a role in a church somewhere, that didn’t work out. I continued working at the Salvation Army Booth Centre for awhile until an opportunity to teach English in South Korea presented itself. Being prepared with my degree from Booth and some great experiences (I had the opportunity to T.A. with Captain Sears, and a variety of other practicum experience), I left and was offered a position as Teaching Manager in Taejon.
I returned to Winnipeg and began working with the Mobile Crisis Unit, where I was surrounded with Social workers and Nurses. I decided that I would go and complete my nursing degree. Having my degree from CBBC helped in my acceptance as well in preparations for my studies. I worked on an acute medical floor at Health Science Center for awhile and am now working with the University of Manitoba in pediatric Asthma/Allergy research.
I married my wife Rachelle in the year 2000 who is also a Nurse. We have two children Isaiah (born June 29, 2005) and Saige (born Oct. 11, 2007). We currently attend the Winnipeg Centre Vineyard, which has taught us some amazing things about our faith, relationships and giftings. Within the church we became involved with an Addictions Recovery House, which was quite interesting. We are currently hanging out in Winnipeg and seeing what happens, Rachelle had done some nursing in Africa when she first graduated and we have talked about the possibility of going back, should be interesting.
